LUMIFY LOVER OF THE MONTH
Born in Quezon City, Philippines Allan Avendaño and his family crossed over to the US and landed in Los Angeles at the age of 5. At a very early age, he became enamored and inspired by the glamour of old Hollywood. Thinking he may find his path in the entertainment industry, he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Communication and soon after, acquired a job in television production.
It didn’t take long for him to realize his fascination with the wardrobe department and it progressed into a desire to be a fashion stylist. He began working at a magazine, assisting their Advertising/Editorial departments and started handling small fashion assignments. During a particular assignment he was handed the responsibility of putting together a glam team for a fashion shoot. In a bold move, he decided to take on the role of “makeup artist” and the rest is history.
Allan solidified his makeup skills as a freelance artist for a popular cosmetics company for 3 years before moving on to work on various celebrities, fashion & beauty editorials, advertising campaigns and television projects for several networks.
Allan continues to be inspired by the fashion and icons of the 1940s-1970s; he is drawn to the glamour and femininity of each era and he says, “I am intrigued by those that can re-invent beauty and create art through their passion.”
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
My name is Allan Avendano and I am a pro makeup artist based in Los Angeles, California. I’ve been a makeup artist for about 25 years and my career is focused on celebrity makeup for press, appearances, editorials, and red carpets.
What kind of look do you usually love to rock?
I typically don’t wear makeup myself, except for the occasional special event or on-camera job, however, when working with clients I love to focus on the eyes. I love to create smoky, sexy eyes. It’s really fun to also play with colors that people wouldn’t normally wear. You’d be surprised what colors can bring out your eyes if you play around. Most of the time, it doesn’t look crazy or too much especially in a world full of viral makeup trends!
What’s your self-care routine?
My self-care routine is pretty simple. I wash my face at night, I will exfoliate once a week, and I will put on sheet masks maybe once or twice a week. I also like to use microcurrent machines to help lift my face and I will also use Gua Sha techniques when I have extra time. I also have an awesome massage chair that my husband bought me and I try to get on it nightly before bed. I sleep a lot better after being beat down by the massage chair. The self-care also continues in the morning if I don’t have too early of a start. I will use either an ice roller or ice globes to take care of any puffiness under the eyes or anywhere on my face.
True story, I used LUMIFY once just to see what it would do for my red eyes. I had a rough night and my eyes looked so red and tired. I actually forgot I put them in because I was a little bit out of it. I was walking towards the door and passed by a mirror and I stopped in my tracks! LUMIFY made such a difference for my eyes that I noticed it simply by just walking past a mirror. I truly couldn’t believe it. The drops reduced redness to help my eyes look whiter, brighter and more awake! Jaw was on the floor!
As a makeup artist, I always want my clients’ natural beauty to shine through. If their eyes are red, I use LUMIFY to reduce redness to help their eyes look more vibrant. That way, when I am creating a look, whether it’s a smoky eye or a pop of bold color, the whole look is more radiant. So not only do I love the way that LUMIFY makes my eyes look, but my clients love it as well!
